I had an appointment to get my wisdom teeth removed at Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, in Totowa NJ. They told me they would give me shots of novocaine to numb my mouth and then put me on laughing gas. After the shots of novocaine (which hurt a lot, i was crying from the amount of pain) they told me I wasn't going to be put on laughing gas because the insurance didn't cover it. I started to have a panic attack because the doctor wanted to start the surgery while my mouth wasn't fully numb, and I was really tense because the novacaine hurt so much. My mom agreed to pay for the laughing gas. As soon as they put the mask on my face they began the surgery. The laughing gas had taken no effect at all, and my mouth was not fully numb when he started to pull my tooth. I felt everything. The doctor tried convincing me that I wasn't in pain, even though I repeatedly told him I was . He didn't believe me or my judgement even though I am 19 years old, old enough to know when I am in pain or not. He tried pulling the tooth one more time but it hurt so much I told him to stop. He got upset with me and told me “I can't work under these conditions” and told me to go home. He sent me home with my mouth bleeding, I had to change the gauze every 5 minutes from how much I was bleeding, and gave me no pain medication for the one tooth he attempted to pull out. It was completely unprofessional. The doctor and no one else in the office had any concern for my health or well being, they were very upset with me. I was still shaking in the car from how traumatized I was from the experience. My mother and I decided to go to the hospital because I was in so much pain and because my tooth was bleeding so much. During my time in the hospital I also changed my gauze 4 times because I was still bleeding. Everytime we changed the gauze it was completely covered in blood. the The doctors at the hospital agreed and said I had a large cut in my mouth. They they referred us to another oral surgeon where we went and got the surgery done. I am still traumatized from the whole experience. Very unprofessional.
